Third place in the category »Research/Science« of the AVK Innovation Award 2017 for the development of the biomimetic, joint-free façade shading »Flectofold« based on the carnivorous water trap (Aldrovanda vesiculosa) and the striped bug (Graphosoma italicum). The study was carried out as part of the TRR 141 by L. Born & G. Gresser (ITFT University of Stuttgart), M. Bischoff & R. Sachse (IBB University of Stuttgart), Jan Knippers, A. Körner, A. Mader, S. Saffarian & G. Schieber (ITKE University of Stuttgart), M. Milwich (ITV Denkendorf), O. Betz & P. Bergmann (University of Tübingen) and T. Speck, S. Poppinga & A. Westermeier (PBG & Botanic Garden University of Freiburg).

NIMS Internship Program Fellowship 2017 of the National Institute for Materials Science (Tsukuba, Japan) awarded to Ms. Stefanie Schmier for a two month research stay at NIMS in April and May 2017 under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Naoe Hosoda (NIMS & Tokyo University) for research within the framework of her dissertation “Plants as source of inspiration for energy dissipation in load bearing systems and facades”.

Add-on Fellowship for Interdisciplinary Science 2016 awarded to Dipl.-Biol. Linnea Hesse im Rahmen der Dissertation mit dem Thema “Qualitative und quantitative Analyse von verzweigten Pflanzen und deren biomimetisches Umsetzungspotential”.

Freiburg), Markus Milwich (HS Reutlingen & ITV Denkendorf, Simon Küppers & Lena Müller (ITV Denkendorf), Prof. Christoph Neinhuis (Institut für Botanik und Botanischer Garten, TU Dresden) und Maik Gude, Andreas Gruhl & Holger Böhm (ILK TU Dresden): Materialica Design + Technology Gold Award 2016 in the Category »Surface and Technology« for the development of a biomimetic 3-arm branch made of fiber-reinforced material.

Katharina Bunk (PhD-student in A06): 1st Prize for the best oral presentation in the General Biomechanics Session of the Annual Meeting of the Society for Experimental Biology in Brighton, U.K. (4st – 7st July 2016) for the talk: “Functional morphology, biomechanics and Finite Element simulation of Schefflera ramifications for biomimetic applications in civil engineering”, authored by Katharina Bunk (PBG Freiburg), Florian Jonas (ITKE Stuttgart), Jan Knippers (ITKE Stuttgart), Thomas Speck (PBG Freiburg) & Tom Masselter (PBG Freiburg)
